“Like Airbnb for cars” – social carsharing marketplace Getaround announced raising $13.9M in Series A funding today led by Menlo Ventures. In the list of investors includes Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer. Getaround was founded by Jessica Scorpio who also serves as director of marketing.
Getaround’s vision is “to make the world a better place through the power of disruptive technology, movements and ideas with a focus on collaborative consumption and sustainability.”
Congrats to Jessica Scorpio and the Getaround team for successfully raising investment for their cleantech startup!
The funding announcement comes on the heels of news that carsharing pioneer Zipcar, which IPOed in April 2011, came up short of revenue expectations for the second quarter. ZipCar was founded in 2000 by former CEO Robin Chase, who is currently working on another cleantech startup called GoLoco for trip-sharing. GoLoco aims to fill the consumer need to share car travel, split costs and reduce emissions in a world with few alternatives.
