Who hasn’t heard the urban legend that women must choose between family and career? 80% of women in the US have children, and 80% of current Fortune 500 female CEOs also have children.

Where equality is nonexistent is in the salaries of women who climb the corporate ladder: the female CEO makes 33 cents to every dollar the male CEO makes. For example, the highest earning male CEO in the Fortune 500 earned $137.2 million in 2011, while the highest earning woman CEO in the Fortune 500 earned $19.2 millionĀ in 2011.
Nonetheless, the number of women CEOs is on the rise, including newcomer Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer.
