Top 10 Metro Areas for STEM Graduates (Infographic)

Silicon Valley is not the only place well suited for STEM grads. A new infographic lists regions in the US that also have thriving STEM industries.

By Jessica Schimm (Assistant Editor, Women 2.0)

It is well known that Silicon Valley is one of the best places for STEM jobs in the United States, but have you ever considered Alabama or New Jersey? Nerdscholar has gone beyond Silicon Valley to find other flourishing STEM communities and industries around the nation. Here are the rankings:

  1. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA
  2. Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV
  3. Huntsville, AL
  4. San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, CA
  5. Trenton-Ewing, NJ
  6. Boulder, CO
  7. Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA
  8. Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, MA-NH
  9. Ann Arbor, MI
  10. Kennewick-Pasco-Richland, WA

And though Silicon Valley has one of the highest ratings for STEM grads of these ten regions, (the list continues below) it also has the highest unemployment rate at 9.90%. Washington, Arlington and Alexandria region has the lowest unemployment rate of these ten regions at 5.80%. Though, according to Nerdscholar, “thriving cities have low unemployment rates and high overall salaries.”
