Female Founders to Watch: New York Edition (Part 1)

Here are just some of the founders in NY who are leaving their mark on the world, (part 2 to come).

alexaAlexa von Tobel (CEO and Founder, LearnVest)

LearnVest, an online platform designed to help people take control of their financial situation, was chosen as an Astia company in 2008-2009. Von Tobel has been called the next “Suze Orman.” Follow her at @alexavontobel.

soraya_newSoraya Darabi (Co-founder, Zady)

Darabi, who was the “manager of digital partnerships and social media at The New York Times” most recently co-created the online shopping platform, Zady, which informs consumers about the origin of their purchases. Follow her at @sorayadarabi.

Laurel-ToubyLaurel Touby (Founder, Mediabistro.com)

The founder of Mediabistro, which was sold to Jupitermedia for $23 m in 2007, is now advising startups while she works on her “next big thing”. Follow her on Twitter at @laureltouby.

KathrynKathryn Minshew (Founder, The Muse)

 Before Minshew founded The Muse, (formerly known as the Daily Muse), in 2011, she co-founded PYP Media. The Muse is currently in the running for WSJ Startup of the Year. Follow her at @kmin.

deborah_jacksonDeborah Jackson (CEO & Founder, PlumAlley.co)

Before founding PlumAlley, a site for women entrepreneurs that enables them to “seek funding, advice from experts and sell their products,” Jackson founded Women Innovate Mobile; before that, Jackson founded JumpThru. Follow her on Twitter @dbd1007 to see what she’s doing now.
